About Me

Thanks for visiting my blog! My name is Lexie, and this is where I share the juicy details of my love affair with knitting.

I'm 24 & live in the Southern United States where it is way. too. hot. to wear anything knit, EVER. But we all have central AC down here, so it works out. I have a 9-5 job as a Marketing Manager (what a drag), love doing anything creative, reading, writing, and watching geeky television & movies. Oh, and I hate cooking.

Q: How long have you been knitting?

A: I actually learned crochet first in 2009 by teaching myself. After I got tired of making granny squares, I would browse Ravelry for good patterns but found I liked the look of knitting so much better. I tried teaching myself to knit through Youtube videos. I could cast on and knit one row, but then I was totally lost! I finally asked a friend to teach me in 2010. As far as skill goes, I have a looong way to go, but I enjoy sharing the learning process with you on this blog :)

Q: How can I learn to knit (or crochet)?

A: If you don't know someone who can teach you, I recommend watching videos on Youtube and also reading a book on the topic: cover to cover, and don't skip the boring parts. These books cleared up a lot of the questions/confusion I had at first: Stitch 'N Bitch Crochet: The Happy Hooker and Stitch 'N Bitch: The Knitter's Handbook.

Q: Where do you get your patterns?

A: I get many of my patterns from Ravelry. This is an awesome knitting community with both free and paid patterns, plus tons of knowledge! To get in on the action, you'll need to create a free account, and if you want to connect, my username is L3XLE.

Occasionally, I make up my own patterns, and several are published on this blog. I'm a pattern writer by necessity only. While I try to make them easy to understand and helpful for anyone who might want to try them out, they probably aren't perfect! If you are ever stumped, feel free to leave a comment or question, and I will do my best to help you out.

Q: What kind of yarn do you use?

A: I'm not too snobby when it comes to yarn. I would happily use inexpensive acrylic yarns like Red Heart if it was the only thing available.. it all depends on the project! I prefer to use natural fibers if possible, but the closest yarn shop to me is about 45 minutes away, so I mostly use what's available in my local craft stores: Michael's, Hobby Lobby, or JoAnn. I find JoAnn has the best selection in my area. Knit Picks has nice yarns at reasonable prices, and you can purchase online.
